In 1987, the Albert Lea Port Authority was established by the Albert Lea City Council. It is funded by grant income, rental and loan income. The Port Authority has the power to use TIF, purchase tax-forfeited property, ability to levy tax and is eligible to receive grants. The Port Authority and Greater Jobs, Inc. share the same seven board members.
