ALBDC Business Incubator welcomes new tenant

ALBDC Welcomes new tenant: Southern Minnesota Battery, LLC.

The Albert Lea Business Development Center (ALBDC), housed under the ALEDA umbrella, serves as a place for entrepreneurs and small business owners of Freeborn County to gain access to the resources they need; such as SCORE mentoring, financing, entrepreneur programming through the Albert Lea Entrepreneur Advancement Program (ALEAP), and incubator space.

The Albert Lea Business Development Center has recently welcomed a new tenant, Southern Minnesota Battery. Southern Minnesota Battery, owned and operated by Tim and Jane Thompson, is a battery recycling logistics and retail company servicing local customers and commercial accounts throughout the four state region. When asked about choosing the ALBDC for their business, Jane Thompson said,

“ALBDC has provided the perfect situation for our small business to take the next step in our expansion process. ALBDC had affordable space to lease so that we can set up a storefront for the public and have warehouse space for our inventory. This opportunity has enabled us to focus on developing a strong foundation to launch our expansion before we make the decision to purchase a building or build a facility of our own.”

Southern Minnesota Battery will be utilizing a large suite in the ALBDC that includes office space, a warehouse, and access to a shared loading dock. Their business is unique, and they are the first to launch this concept in the area.

“Everyone has equipment that relies on a healthy battery. The savings we can provide on battery purchases is significant. We are looking forward to expanding our reach throughout southern MN and northern IA. As we continue to grow, we plan to add retail, delivery and warehouse employees,” explained Tim Thompson.

Their store will be open to the public as well as commercial customers.

“We are unlike any other battery supplier in southern MN and northern IA. Normally, when you find yourself in the market for a battery, you have one option—buy a new battery. Our customers are given the options of purchasing a New, Blemished or Reconditioned battery. This enables customers to make a budget friendly decision based on whatever their situation may be,” said Tim Thompson.

Southern Minnesota Battery will carry inventory in: Automotive, Agricultural, Commercial, Marine, Golf Cart, Lawn & Garden and Solar Storage. They are open Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm in Suite 109 at 2610 YH Hanson Ave, Albert Lea. Their current prices and the definitions of battery options can be found on their website: www.southernmnbattery.com
